STATE
GAMES OF AMERICA
2011 State Games of
America, a property of the National
Congress of State Games, is a national multi-sport
event, held biennially, for athletes of all
ages and skill levels. Medal winners from
45 State Games nationwide earn the right to
compete against other winners and match their
skills and competitive desire in a national
arena.
The 2011 Games marks the first time that
the event will be held on the West Coast.
Colorado Springs has hosted this event in
2009, 2007 & 2005. Other host cities have
included Hartford, Connecticut and St. Louis,
Missouri.
The State Games concept was developed in
New York in 1978 with the Empire State Games.
Annually, more than 400,000 athletes compete
in State Games nationwide. State Games feature
various sports from the Olympic and Pan American
Games programs as well as sports with regional
popularity in each state.
Organized and managed by the California State
Games, the 2011 State Games of America will
take place August 4– 7 in San Diego,
CA.
If you received a medal in your state's 2009
or 2010 State Games, you qualify to compete
in the 2011 State Games of America.
