Athlete Check-In: (Town & Country
Hotel)
Wednesday August 3: 5-9pm
Thursday August 4: 10am - 9pm
Friday August 5: 10am – 5pm
Athlete Check-In is the first impression the
athletes have of the 2011 State Games of America.
We make our Check-In very exciting for the
athletes. They walk in to an area decorated
with banners and flags of each sport. They
go to the table designated for their sport.
When they check-in, they are given a goody
bag full of items to eat and drink, memorabilia
from local professional sports teams, snacks,
and discounts at local attractions. They are
given specific directions to their sport venue
and a reminder on how Opening Ceremonies work.
They also receive their credential.
Opening Ceremonies: (Qualcomm Stadium)
The ceremonies begin at 6:30pm and the vendors
area is open from at 4:30 pm.
Opening Ceremonies is a truly spectacular
event that athletes will remember for a lifetime.
The athletes are amazed when they find out
they get to walk on the field at Qualcomm
Stadium. The estimated attendance is 35,000,
the largest ever for a State Games of America.
The Opening Ceremonies has always been the
highlight of the Games. We are looking forward
to having the State Games of America Opening
Ceremonies be an even more spectacular event
than in the past.
Athlete Party:
This is a time to celebrate with friends and
family at the Athlete Party to be held at
the beautiful waterfront Coronado Tidelands
Park on Saturday. Athletes enjoy a casual
evening of fun, food, music and entertainment.
The party will have a DJ, pizza, salad, drinks,
dessert and lots of games.
Championship Banners:
In addition to Gold, Silver & Bronze medals,
we will award a 2011 State Games of America
Championship Banner to Team Champions in certain
sports.
Athlete Credentials:
Each athlete will receive a beautiful credential
showing that they are an athlete in the 2011
State Games of America. This small token goes
a long way in making every athlete feel special
and in offering a keepsake that they will
cherish.
San Diego Padres Game Night:
If the Padres are home, athletes who receive
a medal at the State Games of America will
have the opportunity to parade onto the field
at Petco Park that weekend. All SGA athletes
and their families can purchase discounted
tickets for Padres’ games during the
Games.
College Recruiting Seminars:
The San Diego Hall of Champions, in conjunction
with the Junior Seau Foundation has embarked
on a much needed program to educate and empower
8-12th grade student-athletes, their parents
or guardians and guidance counselors on the
college recruiting process. The HOC has presented
the Junior Seau Student-Athlete Playbook,
along with quarterly symposiums for parents
and high school student-athletes featuring
speakers from local San Diego college athletic
departments. The popularity of these symposiums
has proven that student-athletes and their
parents or guardians are hungry for this information.
As a part of the State Games of America, the
Hall of Champions would host a symposium in
house offered exclusively for athletes, families
and coaches of the Games.
The San Diego Hall of Champions is the nation's
largest multi-sport museum, boasting three
levels of memorabilia and 68,000 square feet.
The museum offers a state-of-the-art theatre,
an interactive media center and fascinating
Sports @ Lunch
San Diego Hall of Champions would host a Sports@Lunch
event featuring special State Games guests
and well-known athletes slated to be in attendance
at the Games. The Hall has access to hundreds
of very well known athletes from the San Diego
area and that have played professional sports
in San Diego.
