How to Help During the Coronavirus Outbreak

How to Help During the Coronavirus Outbreak

While the coronavirus is changing the way we go about our daily lives, there are still plenty of ways in which we can support each other and our communities. See the list below to see how you can have a positive impact on the people most affected by the coronavirus.

  1.  Practice Physical/Social Distancing
    • The most important action that any of us can take during these difficult times is to remain at home for all but the most essential activities. When we are required to leave the house, we must do everything we can to stay safe for ourselves and others. This means staying at least six feet away from others and wearing a cloth mask when out in public. Very rarely in our lives will we get the chance to save lives just by staying at home, so we all need to do our duty, stay home, and be responsible once we are in public. For more information on physical website, click here to be directed to the California Department of Public Health guidelines.
  2.  Volunteer at or Donate to a Food Bank
    • During the coronavirus outbreak, more individuals and families than ever are short on food, and are in need of assistance. Organizations like the San Diego Food Bank have updated their facilities to ensure that volunteers can help out while maintaining at least six feet of distance from other volunteers. For more information about how you can get involved and help out within your community while remaining safe, please visit covid19.ca.gov
  3. Donate Blood
    • Donated blood has decreased dramatically. Healthy, eligible donors are urged to come out and give to ensure there’s lifesaving blood available for those who need it most. Clinics are still able to operate as they are essential and have methods in place to ensure safe contact with donors. For more information about donating visit the American Red Cross Website
  4. Support Local Restaurants and CSG Partners!
    • Restaurants are among those hit hardest by the recent Shelter in Place Order, however, many are still offering curbside pick-up/ deliveries! Click the article below to see which CSG Partners are offering special deals during these difficult times.
Register for California State Games
By Sakura Roberson December 10, 2025
The California State Games (CSG) has been the state’s largest amateur-sports festival since 1988, offering a “Olympic-style” experience for amateur athletes across California. Following the retirement of the California State Games’ founding Executive Director Sandi Hill, who served in the role for 35 years, Sports San Diego assumed management of the CSG in 2023. What is Sports San Diego? Sports San Diego is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) with a purpose to drive visitor demand to economically benefit the San Diego region through producing the Trust & Will Holiday Bowl, Rady Children’s Invitational, and California State Games and recruiting, supporting, and hosting world-class sports events. How did Sports San Diego Start? The Trust & Will Holiday Bowl is college football bowl game hosted annually San Diego since 1978. Since its inaugural edition on December 22, 1978, at the former San Diego Stadium, when the BYU Cougars faced the Navy Midshipmen, the Trust & Will Holiday Bowl has become a major fixture in the college football postseason calendar. Since its launch, the Trust & Will Holiday Bowl, originally produced by the San Diego Bowl Game Association which evolved into Sports San Diego, has created immense economic value for the region, generating more than $1 billion in impact for San Diego. In 2023, the San Diego Bowl Game Association officially rebranded as Sports San Diego to reflect its broader mission: not only producing the Trust & Will Holiday Bowl, but producing events like the Rady Children’s Invitational and the California State Games and functioning as the region’s sports commission. Part of Something Bigger The integration of the California State Games under Sports San Diego highlights the organization’s ongoing commitment to promoting sports, tourism, and community engagement throughout the region. Sports San Diego has become a driving force for athletic excellence and economic growth, positioning the city as a premier destination for world-class sporting events. By uniting athletes, fans, and communities, it strengthens San Diego’s identity while supporting tourism and creating lasting experiences.
